You raised an incredible $259,800 to support 379 girls in high school and university with scholarships and leadership training!

In rural South Sudan, Haiti, Malawi, and the refugee camps of Uganda and Kenya, girls are stepping up as leaders—moving from mud huts to medical degrees, from classrooms to advocacy, and from learning to leadership.

Read a few of their stories below to see how your support is transforming lives.

Opia’s Story

Opia graduated from high school last year in Uganda. Living with her mom and five siblings in the Pagitinya refugee settlement, she has become a role model for girls in her community.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, she volunteered as an adolescent mentor, distributing dignity kits and mentoring young girls. She also started a hair braiding business, using it as an opportunity to discuss the importance of education with her clients. An award-winning netball player, Opia’s leadership shines both on and off the court. Today, she continues to inspire others by volunteering as a peer mentor through a local radio podcast.

Because of YOU, girls like Opia can move from learning to leading—transforming not only their own lives but also their communities.

Stella’s Story

Supported by MBB donors through high school and university, Stella recently graduated as a Water Engineer. For her capstone project, she created a solar-powered waste removal machine, which she dedicated to MBB in gratitude for the support that shaped her success.

Now working as an engineer with Northern Umbrella Uganda, Stella is using her skills to improve infrastructure in Nyumanzi refugee settlement, tackling waste management and flooding—key challenges in her community. Beyond her professional work, she’s committed to service, assisting neighbors, leading parish fundraisers, and mentoring young scholars. She credits MBB’s core values for inspiring her to lead by example and motivate others to take action.

Stella has moved from learning to leading, using her education to drive real change. Your continued generosity will help more girls like Stella become leaders in their communities.

Palma Joy was born in a mud hut in South Sudan. Thanks to the gift of education, she graduated with a degree in sociology and now leads initiatives that raise awareness of women’s rights and prevent gender-based violence (GBV)—both critical issues in South Sudan.
