Elga, South Sudan, enrolled in 2018

Elga, 23, grew up in a remote village in South Sudan. After the tragic loss of her eldest brother, her mother moved the family to Narus, South Sudan, where Elga attended St. Bakhita Girls' Primary School.

In 2018, Elga earned an MBB high school scholarship. She excelled at St. Bakhita Girls' Secondary School, earning top grades and securing a full MBB scholarship to university in Uganda, where she is pursuing a degree in public health. As the first in her family to receive formal schooling, Elga has broken barriers and inspired change in her community.

"My family now has a reputation in our village for believing in girls’ education because my mother allowed me to be educated with the support of MBB," Elga shares. "This has raised our social standing considerably."

Balancing university studies with raising her child is no easy feat, but Elga approaches it with determination, actively participating in class discussions and tutoring sessions to seize every opportunity for success.

Outside the classroom, Elga finds joy and balance playing football on her school’s team—a chance to stay active and recharge. Her journey reflects the courage and dedication it takes to transform not only her life but also the future of her family and community.
