Chimwemwe, Malawi, enrolled in 2021

Chimwemwe, a 19-year-old from Malawi, is breaking new ground as the first in her family to attend university. Joining Mercy Beyond Borders’ scholarship program in 2021, Chimwemwe is currently pursuing a degree in Medical Laboratory Science. Her dedication and perseverance shine through as she both organizes and actively participates in group discussions and study sessions. She finds these sessions particularly helpful for tackling challenging subjects like Anatomy. Her recent involvement in a clinical research program on youth, research, and innovation underscores her commitment to advancing health innovations.

Beyond academics, Chimwemwe is deeply committed to her community. During the last winter break, she assisted an elderly woman with household chores and volunteered at a local orphanage, tutoring young children

Chimwemwe draws motivation from her parents—her mother, a nurse, and her father, who works for the Malawi Revenue Authority. Their hard work and dedication inspire her to strive for academic excellence. Living in a hostel near campus allows her to maintain study groups and stay focused on her goals.

Eager for next semester, she looks forward to conducting independent research and applying her growing practical skills. She aims to excel in her field and hopes to contribute significantly to medical science advancements in Malawi.

"Thank you, Mercy Beyond Borders, for the unwavering support. This opportunity to study and grow with my Sisters is a blessing," Chimwemwe shares.
